EXHALE Dance Company will hold in-person auditions for the 2026/27 Season on May 15-16, 2026 in Washington, D.C.

Position Details

  • Contract Dates: August 1, 2026 - April 30th, 2027 (35 week)
  • Creation and Rehearsal: Approx. 16 weeks per year
  • DC Performances: 8 weeks per year
  • Touring/Schools: Approx. 9 weeks per year
  • Public Appearances & Rest: Approx. 2 weeks
  • Off Season: May 2027 - July 2027 (13 weeks)

  • Human Centered Approach: In addition to further cultivating the dancers artistry (performance and choreography), EXHALE focuses on the whole dancer and providing life long skills/training including: physical, mental, emotional well-being, leadership, communication, financial management, career development.

    Eligibility Criteria:
  • At least 20 years of age at the start of the contract.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Available for the entire contract period.

    Salary & Benefits

    EXHALE Dance Company offers Company Dancers 35-week contracts with salary of $30K per year (paid biweekly). This is a W-2 salaried employee position.  Additional benefits may be available, including health insurance, paid holidays, and more.

    Phase 1: Video Submission Open Call

    All are welcome to submit a video for consideration to participate in the in-person audition to be held in Washington, D.C., May 15-16 2026.

    Please submit the following requirements via email to bmb@exhaledancecompany.org

  • Resume/CV (attachment acceptable)
  • Headshot/Bio (attachment acceptable)
  • One video link not to exceed 4-minutes including the following sections:
  • Ballet technique (No Pointe work)
  • Contemporary/Modern work
  • Solo improvisation
  • NOTE: Your video must be submitted via link, (i.e. YouTube, Google Drive). If your video is sent as an email attachment, the submission will not be accepted. Video Submission Deadline: March 31, 2026 at 11:59pm EST

    If accepted to the next stage of the audition, you will receive an email from EXHALE Dance Company no later than April 15, 2026.

    Phase 2: In-Person Audition

    If selected to participate in the live Washington, D.C. audition, please reserve the weekend of May 15-16, 2026. Exact schedule TBD.

  • In-person auditions will take place in Washington, D.C. (Exact address will be provided)
  • Plan on a 4-hour commitment consisting of a ballet barre, center work, contemporary & modern class and interviews.
  • Cuts will be made following class.
  • Be prepared with ballet shoes, socks, knee pads and water bottle.
  • Phase 3: Call-Back

    By the end of your audition class on May 15, you will know if you are selected for the call-back Audition on Saturday, May 16, from 11:00am - 5:00pm EST. Please keep this timeframe open. Dancers must be available for the entire call-back, no exceptions.

    Please note:
  • The call-back will consist of class, additional EXHALE repertoire, and interviews.
  • Cuts will be made throughout.
  • Be prepared with ballet shoes, socks, knee pads, and water bottle
  • PHASE 4: Selected EXHALE Company Artist Notification & Start Date

  • Dancers are notified if they were selected to be members of EXHALE by June 1, 2026
  • EXHALE Dance Company Season 1 first rehearsal begins August 3, 2026
  • Health, Safety & Injury

  • Dancers acknowledge that participation in all EXHALE activities is undertaken at their own risk.
  • Dancers are responsible for disclosing all relevant medical conditions and injuries prior to and during the audition.
  • No dancer will be required to perform choreography involving unreasonable or unsafe physical risk outside of professional contemporary dance standards.
  • EXHALE reserves sole discretion to pause, modify, or terminate a dancer’s participation if, in the Company’s judgment, continued participation poses a risk to the dancer, other artists, staff, or productions.
